The first recipient of this year’s Imam Bukhari International Scholarship, Ayşenur Kumaş, a researcher at Karabük University, has arrived at the Center to undertake a research internship. She was received by the Director, Professor Shovosil Ziyodov, during which she outlined the objectives of her research activities in Uzbekistan.

The Turkish researcher aims, within the framework of her scholarly work, to investigate rare hadith compilations based on the “Sahihayn” – the authoritative collections of Imam al-Bukhari and Imam Muslim – which are currently presumed lost. In particular, her research focuses on the narrations of Abu Bakr al-Barqani and the commentaries composed on them.

During her research internship, the scholar plans to utilize manuscripts from the Center’s collection, as well as digital copies of rare sources preserved in libraries around the world, in order to enrich the content and broaden the scope of her academic work. In accordance with the program, she is also expected to undertake academic visits to Tashkent and Bukhara, and to conduct a scholarly seminar at the Center.

For reference, this scholarship program has been contributing to the enhancement of the research capacity of international scholars since 2022. Over the past period, a total of 30 researchers from various countries have completed academic internships at the Center. In the current year, seven foreign researchers are expected to further develop their academic qualifications within the framework of the program.
