An Interview with the Director of the Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center
The October 2026 issue of Nukkad Hadis Araştırmaları Dergisi, a scholarly journal published in Türkiye, features an interview with Professor Shovosil Ziyodov, Doctor of Historical Sciences and Director of the Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center. The interview explores the Center’s research activities, major achievements, and prospects for international academic cooperation.
Conducted by Mustafa Alagözoğlu, the interview provides insights into the Center’s principal research priorities, its efforts to study and preserve the intellectual legacy of great Islamic scholars, the preservation and digitization of manuscripts, and the opportunities available to international researchers.
“We do not wish to remain confined within our own boundaries,” Professor Ziyodov stated while discussing the importance of international academic engagement. He emphasized the need to strengthen partnerships with research institutions in Türkiye and other countries, promote the exchange of expertise, and expand collaborative research initiatives.
The interview also highlights the Center’s valuable manuscript collection, which currently comprises 653 manuscripts, 937 lithographed books, and 114 historical documents. Nearly 70 percent of the manuscripts have already been digitized. Professor Ziyodov further revealed plans for a collaborative project aimed at developing an electronic catalogue of these holdings in accordance with international standards.
Another important topic addressed in the interview is the Imam Bukhari Scholarship Programme, an initiative designed to support emerging scholars and encourage academic research. Through this programme, researchers from Uzbekistan and abroad are provided with access to the Center’s library, scholarly resources, and modern research facilities. Participants also have opportunities to conduct research at other academic institutions across Uzbekistan.
Outlining the Center’s future priorities, Professor Ziyodov underscored the importance of studying previously unexplored works by prominent scholars, identifying and introducing new manuscript sources into academic circulation, and increasing the number of international conferences and symposia.
The publication of this interview represents another meaningful step towards introducing the Center’s academic potential, its contributions to the study and preservation of manuscript heritage, and its expanding opportunities for international scholarly cooperation to a wider global academic audience.
