Imam al-Bukhari’s Legacy Shapes New Directions for Cooperation

A meeting was held at the Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center with the participation of representatives of scientific, educational, and cultural institutions from Uzbekistan and Indonesia. The discussion brought together officials of the Center and a delegation of An-Nawawi Islamic Institute Purworejo and JATMAN (the Association of Sufi Orders).

The participants discussed ways to further strengthen academic and educational cooperation between the two countries, jointly study and promote their rich spiritual heritage, and expand the exchange of expertise in education and scientific research.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that the scholarly and spiritual legacies of such great scholars as Imam al-Bukhari, Imam al-Tirmidhi, Imam al-Maturidi, Abu Ali Ibn Sina (Avicenna), Muhammad al-Khwarizmi, and Mirzo Ulughbek constitute a shared treasure of humanity. Particular attention was given to Imam al-Bukhari’s approach to the pursuit of knowledge, founded upon truth, authenticity, and high moral values, which continues to hold great relevance today.

As a significant outcome of the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center and the Indonesian institutions. The document establishes a legal framework for expanding cooperation in scientific research, promoting academic exchanges, organizing conferences, seminars, and roundtable discussions, and implementing joint educational and cultural projects.

As part of their visit, the Indonesian guests toured the Center and the Imam Bukhari Memorial Complex. They were introduced to the life and scholarly contributions of the great muhaddith, his role in the development of Hadith studies, and the ongoing efforts in Uzbekistan to preserve, study, and promote his rich intellectual and spiritual heritage.

The participants noted that the dialogue would further strengthen the historical and spiritual ties between Uzbekistan and Indonesia and contribute to elevating cooperation in the fields of science, education, and enlightenment to a new level.
