“The Legacy of Imam al-Bukhari – A Spiritual Bridge Connecting Two Nations”

An article by Nodir Kobilov, a research fellow at the Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center, has been published in Indonesia’s influential “Kalimantan Post” under the same title.

The article highlights the historical friendship between Uzbekistan and Indonesia, the shared Islamic values that unite the two countries, and the rich scholarly and spiritual legacy of Imam al-Bukhari.

As the author emphasizes, Imam al-Bukhari is a highly revered scholar not only in Uzbekistan but throughout the Muslim world, particularly among the people of Indonesia. His renowned work, “Al-Jami‘ as-Sahih”, is studied as one of the principal sources of Hadith at thousands of Islamic educational institutions across Indonesia.

The article also highlights the significance of the 1956 visit of Indonesia’s first President, Sukarno, to Samarkand, during which he visited the mausoleum of Imam al-Bukhari. This historic visit is noted as having contributed to greater state-level attention to the sacred site.

The author further emphasizes the productive cooperation between the Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center and a number of Indonesian higher education institutions in the fields of Hadith studies, manuscript research, international academic cooperation, academic exchanges, and the implementation of joint research projects. The article also explores in detail promising areas of cooperation in pilgrimage tourism, the halal industry, education, and cultural and humanitarian exchanges.

Concluding the article, the author underscores that Imam al-Bukhari’s scholarly legacy continues to serve as a strong spiritual bridge bringing the peoples of Uzbekistan and Indonesia closer together while promoting the values of knowledge, enlightenment, and tolerance.
