MANUSCRIPT STUDIES AND ACADEMIC INTEGRATION: RARE MANUSCRIPTS OF EMINENT CENTRAL ASIAN SCHOLARS DISCOVERED IN ALGERIA

As part of their academic mission to the Algeria, members of the Uzbek delegation visited Emir Abdelkader University of Islamic Sciences in the city of Constantine with the aim of further strengthening scholarly and academic cooperation between the institutions of the two countries.

Representatives of the Uzbek delegation, including Shovosil Ziyodov, Sa’dullokhon Bobokhojayev, Hikmatullo Abiyev, and Ahmad Jasim Al-Zubaidi, met with Mukhtar Amir Nasira, Vice Rector for International Relations and Cooperation at Emir Abdelkader University of Islamic Sciences, and Mohammed Bashir bin Tabba. The meeting was also attended by Ali Gharibi.

The hosts introduced the Uzbek delegation to the university’s long-standing history, its contemporary educational system, and its research activities in the field of fundamental Islamic sciences. During the meeting, Shovosil Ziyodov briefed the university leadership and faculty members on the state-led reforms currently being implemented in Uzbekistan to advance research in Islamic studies, hadith scholarship, and the Maturidi intellectual tradition. He also presented a selection of the Center’s recent publications.

The participants further discussed opportunities for exchanging academic expertise, strengthening cooperation in higher education and research, and implementing prospective joint projects of mutual interest.

Members of the Uzbek delegation also became acquainted with the activities of the university’s Manuscript Center, which houses a rich and unique collection of manuscripts. While examining the catalog containing nearly 1,800 rare manuscripts, Uzbek specialists in manuscript studies identified several valuable works related to the scholarly heritage of Mawarannahr, including copies of Sahih al-Bukhari by Imam al-Bukhari and Al-Shama’il al-Muhammadiyyah by Imam al-Tirmidhi, among the collection’s most valuable holdings.

The two sides agreed to undertake a joint comparative and critical study of these ancient manuscripts, prepare their texts for scholarly publication, and further strengthen and systematically expand cooperation between their respective institutions.
