As previously reported, the working visit of the Samarkand Region delegation, led by Governor Adiz Boboyev, to Indonesia has commenced. Within the framework of the visit, members of the delegation held an official meeting with Khafifa Indar, Governor of East Java Province, one of Indonesia’s major and prominent administrative units.

During the cordial dialogue, the parties thoroughly discussed expanding mutually beneficial cooperation between these two regions of Uzbekistan and Indonesia in the fields of trade and economics, culture and humanitarian affairs, education, and tourism.

Governor Khafifa Indar emphasized that the people of Indonesia have long considered Uzbekistan, and in particular the land of Samarkand, to be sacred. He acknowledged that the inauguration of the newly established Imam Bukhari Memorial Complex, initiated by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, represents a significant historical event not only for Uzbekistan but for the entire Islamic world. He also noted that establishing close ties with Samarkand is a priority for East Java.

During the meeting, the tourism sector was recognized as a key “driver” of cooperation, and the necessity of establishing direct flights between the regions was emphasized. In addition, an agreement was reached to organize visits to Uzbekistan by distinguished delegations from East Java, comprising officials and religious scholars, within the framework of the “Umrah Plus” program.

During the negotiations, a set of measures aimed at developing multifaceted cooperation between Samarkand Region and East Java Province was established.
