As previously reported, the delegation from Samarkand Region, led by Governor Adiz Boboyev, is currently visiting Malaysia. During the visit, members of the delegation held a meeting with Malaysia’s Minister of Religious Affairs, Dr. Zulkifl Hasan.
During the dialogue, the high status of Samarkand in the Islamic world and its potential as the “Tourism Gateway of New Uzbekistan” were particularly emphasized. The Malaysian side recognized that Samarkand, as the eternal resting place of the great hadith scholar Imam Bukhari, holds exceptional value and sacred significance for the Malaysian people.
It was also highlighted that, following the inauguration of the newly established Imam Bukhari Complex at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and in light of 2026 being declared the “Year of Open Tourism” in Uzbekistan, even greater opportunities have been created for visitors.
During the discussions, a number of important proposals were put forward to take practical cooperation to a new level. In particular, considerations were made regarding the establishment of flights on the “Kuala Lumpur – Samarkand – Jeddah” route and the introduction of discounts of up to 30% on hotel and transport services for pilgrims.
During the meeting, the primary focus was placed on scientific and educational cooperation, with proposals related to the activities of the Imam Bukhari International Scientific-Research Center also put forward. In particular, discussions addressed important issues such as organizing scientific internships at the Center for staff of religious organizations and students from educational institutions in Malaysia, conducting the commencement of the Imam Bukhari Hadith recitation in Kuala Lumpur and its conclusion in Samarkand with the participation of the Center’s scholars, implementing joint scientific projects in the field of religious education, and establishing personnel exchange programs.
Dr. Zulkifl Hasan expressed his support for these initiatives, emphasizing that cooperation with the Center is an honor for Malaysia.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties agreed to consistently implement activities in the designated areas of cooperation.
