Three researchers from the Manuscript and Museum Department of the Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center have commenced the next phase of a training program at the Turkish Directorate General of Archives and Libraries (Türkiye Yazma Eserler Kurumu Başkanlığı Kitap Şifahanesi ve Arşiv Dairesi Başkanlığı) and the Süleymaniye Manuscript Library.
This program, launched in January 2022, aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of researchers and restorers responsible for the preservation and study of manuscripts at the Center. It is implemented in accordance with the Presidential Decree of February 10, 2022, “On Additional Measures to Improve the System of Preservation and Research of Ancient Written Sources”.
While the practical training in August 2023 focused heavily on practical exercises, this training cycle places emphasis on reinforcing existing knowledge and mastering the subsequent stages of the manuscript restoration process.
During meetings with Dr. Hüseyin Kutan, head of the Süleymaniye Library in Istanbul, and Nil Baydar, head of the Directorate General of Archives and Libraries, this emphasis was reiterated.
Discussions also highlighted the importance of incorporating training in book preservation and protection, cataloging, and library management alongside restoration activities.
The researchers’ training program will last for one month.
