GIVEN ALLOWANCE TO THE FAMILY IS ALSO A CHARITY

The Hadith collection of Imam Bukhari “Sahih-al Bukhari” covers all aspects of our life. Among these are the narrations about giving allowance to the family of the people. We look at how the scholars interpreted one of these hadiths and the issues discussed in it.

This hadith is narrated by Abu Mas’ud Ansari, may Allah be pleased with him: “The Prophet, (ﷺ) said: “Muslim allowance for his family in the hope of reward (from Allah) are also considered charity.”

A person should have the intention of Allah’s pleasure and reward when giving allowance to his family and dependents. Because of his intention, he will receive a greater reward. Allowance for young children are duty. The Prophet, (ﷺ) said: “Giving allowance should start from your family members. Because young children depend on their parents.

A person gets rewarded by giving allowances that he has to fulfill.

Imam Tabari says: “The conclusion from this hadith is that it is wajib to give allowance to the family members. If a person spends with good intentions in the hope of reward, he will get more reward. There is no contradiction (incompatibility) between wajib allowance and voluntary charity. “Perhaps wajib allowance is better than voluntary allowance.”

Imam Muhallab says: “All the scholars emphasized that it is wajib to give allowance to the family members.

In order for a person not to think that there is no reward for wajib allowance, but there is a reward for voluntary allowance, Allah Almighty called obligatory allowance also charity. That is, he said that it is charity. Even people donate what is left over from their families. Here, made an interest in giving wajib allowance rather than voluntary charity.

Ibn Munir says: “Calling allowance a charity is like calling a dowry a gift.” A woman needs a man just as a man needs a woman to enjoy himself, to live a beautiful life, to restrain himself (from impurity), and to have children. According to the original rule, in essence, a man should not be obliged to do anything for a woman. But Allah Almighty has chosen the man to be superior to the woman and to guide him. Raised the man one step above the woman. Here it is possible to use the word gift instead of the word dowry and the word charity instead of the word allowance.

Therefore, since Allah Almighty has made man superior to woman and made him a leader, the husband is responsible for giving allowance to his wife. In all of the above hadiths, family allowances are emphasized. This is considered one of the best deeds in the instructions of our holy religion and the national values of our people. Giving an allowance to family and dependents is one of the virtues of a true believer. Regular observance of such virtues is one of the urgent issues of today.
