16 NOVEMBER- INTERNATIONAL DAY OF TOLERANCE

By the decision of the UN General Assembly since 1997 November 16 is celebrated worldwide as the International Day of tolerance. The celebration of this date in Uzbekistan has become a good tradition.

November 11 to 16 this year, an initiative with the Committee on Interethnic Relations and Friendship with Foreign Countries and the of the Cabinet of Ministers, dedicated to the International Day of tolerance events of “tolerance week” was held.

Representatives of the diplomatic corps in Uzbekistan, representatives of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, members of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis, international experts and scholars working in the field of international relations, heads of Uzbek national cultural centers abroad, took part.

As was reported earlier, on November 16 the participants of the conference arrived in Samarkand. Guests visited the sights and historical sites of the ancient settlement.

In particular, The visited the Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center under the Cabinet of Ministers and got acquainted with the activities of the institution. There they met with the representatives of the national cultural centers of Samarkand and held close talks. It was noted that the policy of religious tolerance of our country is an example for all countries.

Indeed, one of the most important priorities of the state’s interfaith and interfaith policy is to create equal conditions and opportunities for the prosperity of all nations and nationalities, to harmonize interethnic relations.

Today, more than 130 nationalities and nations live in peace and harmony in our country. They have all the necessary facilities. After all, our Constitution also stipulates that all citizens are equal before the law, regardless of their nationality, race or religion. Also, in this new era of state policy, special attention is given to this issue.

Specifically, the fifth direction of the “Strategy of Action for the five priority areas of development of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2017-2021” focuses on “Security, interethnic concord and religious tolerance and the well-thought-out, mutually beneficial and practical foreign policy”.

This again confirms that strengthening of interethnic and interreligious tolerance is an integral part of the ongoing reforms in our country.
