IRCICA and Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center organized International Workshop and Exhibition of Islamic Calligraphy

IRCICA and Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center (IBISRC), Samarkand, have jointly organized an International Workshop on “Manuscript Funds of Uzbekistan: Preservation, Cataloguing and Personnel Training”, and an Exhibition of Islamic Calligraphy, both opened on 21 June 2019 at IBISRC’s headquarters in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Both events were inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Halit Eren, IRCICA Director General, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shovosil Ziyodov, Director of IBISRC, with the participation of scholarly and cultural personalities. The two-day workshop started with a plenary session followed by sessions where a total of 36 research papers were presented, under the following session themes: “Manuscript Funds in Uzbekistan”, “Manuscripts: Their Preservation, Primary Description and Preparing of On-Line Catalogues”, “Learning Manuscripts: Edition and Digitization of Texts, Art of Islamic Calligraphy”, “Legacy of Uzbekistan Great Islamic Scholars in Manuscripts”. Prof. Dr. Ashirbek Muminov from IRCICA gave the keynote speech titled “National and Private Collections of Arabographic Manuscripts in Uzbekistan” at the plenary session.

The calligraphy exhibition featured 25 plates selected from among prize winners in IRCICA’s competitions and works of eminent calligraphers. A brochure of the exhibition containing photographs of the works displayed, was distributed.

The same day, IRCICA Director General Prof. Dr. Halit Eren and Prof. Dr. Ashirbek Muminov (IRCICA) visited the Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center (IBISRC). A Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation between IRCICA and IBISRC was signed by Prof. Dr. Halit Eren, IRCICA Director General, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shovosil Ziyodov, Director of IBISRC. During the ceremony, the book Epitaphs of Muslim Scholars in Samarkand (10th–14th Centuries) which resulted from a collective research and was published by IRCICA in 2019, was presented.
