The winners of the international competition held among Egyptian researchers on the scientific heritage of Imam Moturidi – Al-Azhar University department of “Usulud Din” head Dr. Avvod Mahmoud Salim, teachers of this department Muhammad Abdulaziz Mish’ol and Amal Usman visited IBISRC.
Deputy director Otabek Muhammadiev welcomed the guests who came to our country as part of a 10-day trip to Uzbekistan organized as a prize for the winners who took the first three places in the competition and introduced them to the Center Museum.
During the visit, an international roundtable discussion was held on the topic “Specific aspects of the Samarkand School of Aqeedah” with the participation of Al-Azhar researchers and scientific staff of the Center.
At the conference, Avvod Mahmud Salim shared useful information about the aqeedah of Maturidi.
The views of this school, formed by Imam Abu Mansur Moturidi, are based on moderation. It was noted that this is reflected also in the concept of takfir, which is one urgent issue of today. It is known that according to the aqeedah of Ahl As-Sunna Wal Jama’ah, believers whose sins have been committed are not disbelieved.
The scholar explained with clear evidence that the two great imams of the aqeedah of Ahl As-Sunna Wal Jama’ah- Abu Mansur Moturidi and Abu Hasan Ash’ari – took their views of aqeedah from the righteous predecessors, and they did not introduce anything new on their own.
Avvod Mahmud Salim touched upon the topic of theology and said that some’s interpretation of tawhid into three parts – tawhid, theology, and adjective of names – has no scientific basis.
He explained in detail the in the aqeedah of Moturidis and Ash’aris schools the issues related to the unseen world, such as the torment of the grave, the bridge of the Sirat, and seeing the face of God in Jannah. And he showed through examples that the small differences between these two schools do not impact the real essence, they are only in words.
Muhammad Abdulaziz Mish’al spoke about the emergence of jurisprudential madhabs. He mentioned that this is not a heresy, as some people claim, and in particular, some companions like Abdullah ibn Mas’ud and Abdullah ibn Abbas had their jurisprudential views.
Amal Usman said, the Madhab of Moturidi in proving their views, is based on the Holy Qur’an and Hadith Sharifs. On the topic, he expressed his satisfaction in making a speech about that at the center.
In general, Egyptian scientists highly appreciated the effective changes being carried out in Uzbekistan regarding the study of the scientific heritage of ancestors, especially Imam Bukhari and Imam Moturidi. They noted that both sides are equally interested in holding such scientific conferences in the future.
The roundtable discussion continued with intense questions and answers. At the end of the event, guests were presented with a collection of literature published by the Center.
