Principal tasks defined to implement agreements reached during highest-level visit to the UAE

Today, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has held a meeting on the organization of practical implementation of the agreements signed during the official visit to the United Arab Emirates last week.

As previously reported, the head of our state held productive talks with the Crown Prince of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Prime Minister of the country , Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, members of government and leaders of a number of major companies in the country.

As a result of negotiations, the two sides adopted a joint statement and inked a number of important agreements, including those on the realization of promising investment projects and programs worth over 10 billion dollars.

The bilateral deals cover such priority areas and fields of interaction as innovations, the oil and gas industry, traditional and alternative energy, development of modern infrastructure, transport and logistics, agriculture, tourism, education, among others.

It is crucial that during the visit, the top leadership of the Emirates repeatedly underlined and voiced full support for the fundamental reforms and transformation underway in the country. The growing interest of UAE business circles in Uzbekistan is suggestive of the growing confidence in our country.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev stressed the need for timely and unconditional implementation of decisions and documents, and also the importance of the soonest commencement of the adopted roadmap through the introduction of effective tools and mechanisms for their promotion.

Among the priority joint projects with leading companies and organizations of the United Arab Emirates are the development of the Navoi land port and the free economic zone, growth in hydrocarbon production in our country followed by their deep processing, modernization and expansion of Talimarjan and other operating thermal power plants, construction of wind and solar power stations, ammonia and carbamide plant in the Syrdarya region and others.

In addition, issues considered included those relating to the practical realization of joint projects to set up agro-industrial clusters and boost the export potential of the country’s agriculture, develop business, tourism and public utilities infrastructure in Samarkand, support business initiatives, including by attracting funds of investment company established with the participation the Abu Dhabi Development Fund with a statutory fund of $ 1 billion.

Special attention was paid to the enhancement of partnership in the field of training highly qualified specialists and to the multifaceted cooperation with the company Masdar and Khalifa University. 

The Ministry for Investments and Foreign Trade will open its office in the United Arab Emirates in order to coordinate work in this area and support projects.

The head of our state gave specific instructions for the timely implementation of activities in the “roadmap”.

The Cabinet of Ministers, heads of ministries, other government agencies and sector companies of the country have been tasked to approve network schedules and begin the practical execution of projects, introduce effective mechanisms for unconditional realization of the Uzbek-Emirates agreements at the highest level as soon as possible.
