The Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center under the Cabinet of Ministers continues a series of online seminars with the participation of famous foreign professors and scientists. The next online seminar dedicated to the research of the Koran and tafsir. The Seminar was organized with the participation of doctor Ahmed Damanhuri – famous scientist, maturidiologist, doctor of the Fatih Sultan Mehmet University (Turkey).
Dr. Ahmed Damanhuri was born in Egypt, and currently lives in Istanbul (Turkey). In 2015, he received the title of Doctor of Philosophy at Al-Azhar University on the topic “Imam Maturidi and his scientific methodology.” He is the author of many scientific works on the study of the Qur’an, Sunna and Aqidah. Today, he carries out his activities as a senior researcher at this university, director of the Distance Learning Islamic Sciences of Egyptian University, researcher at the Supreme Council of Egypt for Islamic Affairs.
Ahmed Damanhuri took part in the international conference “Imam Abu Mansur Maturidi and the teachings of maturidia: past and present” – organized on March 2-4 of this year in Samarkand. At conference he gave a speech on “The Importance of Eliminating the Religious Problems of the Doctrine of Maturidi”
At the online seminar, the scientist made a speech on the topic “Methodology of clarifying the work of Imam Maturidi “Taavilat al-Qur’an”.
Speaking about the origin of this work, Ahmed Damanhuri underlined that Imam Maturidi organized special meetings (majlises) for this work, and these meetings and his students played a significant role in the formation of this book.
As the scientist noted, “Taavilat al-Qur’an” is not solely a scientific work. It reveals many aspects of ethics and education along with issues of faith and fiqh. A person acquainted with this work will be able to easily separate religion and culture, and won’t be confused in matters of religion and tradition.
Ahmed Damanhuri also marked that the book of Imam Maturidi “Taavilat al-Qur’an” made an invaluable contribution to the development of the science of tafsir and became a fundamental guide in resolving issues of faith. The scientist also shared the precious information obtained during the study of these issues.
– Today more than ever it is important to bring to the attention of the Islamic Ummah, especially Youth, the content and essence of the works of Imam Maturidi and other religious sources. In the current conditions, when the cases of atrocities under the guise of Islam continuing, throwing dirt on our sacred religion, these works will serve as a significant methodological tool. In particular, Imam Maturidi was able to object at a high scientific level to many heretical movements in religion, the Turkish scientist noted.
Ahmed Damanhuri also emphasized that the founder of the teachings of the ‘Aqidah’ Imam Maturidi is also a great philosopher. There is no wonder why he was recognized as the second teacher of his time after Plato.
“This is recognized by academia and the world intelligentsia,” the scientist underlined.
According to Ahmed Damanhuri, it is necessary to collect and carefully study manuscripts on the teaching of maturidia – scattered in various libraries of the world and together to explore hitherto unexplored aspects of this teaching. The Turkish scientist answered in detail and with the use of scientific facts all the questions of interest to scientific researchers.
